Introduction

Think of the last time you had a physical injury like stubbing your toe, breaking a bone, or falling onto the floor. How did you physically and mentally experience the pain? If you received some type of pain relief treatment, how did it change your discomfort? The video below briefly explores the types of pain people experience and how patients can experience pain in different ways.

To date, there are limited non-invasive (i.e. not requiring injections or IV cannulation), non-opioid pain relief therapies in the pre-hospital emergency setting. This module will focus on methoxyflurane, an inhaled analgesic approved for use in Canada in April 2018 for patients presenting with trauma-related pain in this environment.
