Who is Covered?
Identifying who is covered is important to talk about. Knowing a little bit about the history, and a bit more about the current and future state is worth it.
Where we started
Like many organizations, Odyssey Medical began in the world of events providing first aid level coverage at a variety of community events. With time and increasing expertise, and eventually a shot at some more complex events requiring higher levels of care, including paramedicine, and then nursing and physician services, the need for an internal Medical Direction Program became apparent. We wanted to do more, and no one liked to provide less service than they were capable of to their patients.
We onboard every staff/crew member, confirming active clinical credentials and a current license without restrictions.
Where we went next
In 2017, some of our team members who also worked with other companies asked about whether or not we could support them with our Medical Direction program. Small companies doing remote deployments, stand-alone events with internal medical team, Search and Rescue groups and others have all struggled to solve the same sorts of issues. So, we decided to give it a try, and yes... we now are able to support other organizations who share similar values to work to scope in their deployments and contexts.
Where we might go next
We realize that some of our team members do first aid coverage 'on the side', or with a local team or club. We've even had team members who've been asked to bring gear to a family wedding! In order for people to work to their full skill-set, there has been a quiet call for 'individual medical direction' for some independent providers. We have a few beta-testers (PCP and ACP) out there and are learning as we go.
So who is covered?
- Odyssey Team members across all levels of certification working on Odyssey events
- Team members for enrolled companies, organizations or events seeking support for their team members to work to their full scope
- Individuals seeking support to practice to their reasonable skill-set in a variety of pre-determined settings
We do a screening application and interview for all organizations or individuals seeking coverage to ensure that the risk profile, quality measures and professional practice standards are aligned with our community values. We want everyone to feel some pride in the quality of the program, and for those involved to be recognized for their commitment to quality care.
