Hair salons and barber shops are more than just a place where you can get a trim. There is something about having your hair washed with wonderful smelling shampoos or feeling that hot towel on your face just before that first dab of shaving cream is applied, that just feels so relaxing.
Many places have little tables set up where you can sip on a coffee and enjoy socializing while you wait for your turn in the chair with a stylist who is skilled in their craft. New jobs, special occasions, or just wanting a new look, are only a few of the reasons we find ourselves booking appointments.
COVID-19 is changing the way many industries, like yours, will be offering your services to your clients during a global pandemic. Maintaining social distances of 6 feet, wearing masks, washing your hands, and constant reminders to stay home if you not feeling well are the most frequent messages we are hearing. But, when your business requires you to be in close proximity to your client, what else can you do to be be safe.
In the first portion of this course, stylists will learn what COVID-19 is, how it is being transmitted, how it spreads, and what you can do to help break the chain of infection. The next section, we are answering questions from stylists about the different types of masks, goggles, face shields and other personal protective equipment out there to help them decide what is best for them and their practice.

Your Instructor
Adam is Odyssey’s CEO and Medical Director nationally. Call sign… ‘Dr. Evil.’ He has a particular interest in risk assessment and leadership development.

Adam is a practicing emergency physician since 2003, currently licensed in British Columbia and Ontario. He works at the Royal Columbian Hospital (tertiary trauma centre in Fraser Health) and at Eagle Ridge (community hospital). He is also an online support physician for BC Emergency Health Services since 2013, supporting paramedics and the provincial patient transfer services. Academically, Adam is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at UBC, and the head of the BC Emergency Medicine Network’s Innovation Program on Mass Gathering and Event Medicine.
